Challenge: Expand upon an existing restaurant concept’s brand through the design and construction of a new, ground-up location. SOB, an acronym for South of Beale, began with its first location in downtown Memphis. Located in a new Collierville development, this new space offered us and the owners an opportunity to further develop the existing SOB brand through intentional and bold interior design.

SOB’s menu is unexpected and adventurous, with interesting flavor combinations and diverse food and drink offerings. This inspired the design’s postmodern influence. Some key principles seen throughout postmodern design are strong use of color, terrazzo, abstract shapes, and asymmetry. We interpreted these design concepts through the use of graphic color-blocked tile, swaths of warm monochromatic color, and architectural details such as asymmetric shaped restroom vanities and arched door openings.  The space is a warm, monochromatic, and modern space featuring a dreamy, abstract wall mural by Calico.
